House-wrap is a replacement for the older asphalt-treated paper. The purpose is to create a weather barrier behind exterior cladding while protecting the sheathing and also create vapor-permeable membrane that allows moisture trapped in sheathing to escape and also to be an energy-efficient air barrier to stop air infiltration into the home.
The House-Wrap must be able to pass the Water Ponding Test and the Hydrostatic Pressure Test.Water Ponding is a measure of a house-wrap’s resistance to a “pond” of 1 inch of water over two hours. Hydrostatic Pressure, the most stringent test, exerts significant pressures on a House-Wrap sample through a column of water (55 cm or higher) and we pass both these tests. Many House-Wraps provide a 90–180 days recommendation for installation of siding, our product clears the cold resistance test standard and ensures that it does not start to crack at low or very low temperatures in case of reasonable delay. Vapor Permeability measures the amount of vapor transmission that a House-Wrap will allow over a period of time, minimizing the potential for accumulation of moisture vapor. The higher the “perm number,” the more vapor permeable the material. The optimal permeablerange for House-Wraps, with 10-20 perms and is considered by most in the industry to be a “sweet spot.” Drainage is widely accepted as one of the most effective measures for reducing moisture damage due to rain penetration and is a critical component in allowing the House-Wrap to do its job of keeping the walls dry.
