Silt fence is manufactured from polypropylene UV resistant tapes. Designed to prevent the release of silt from a construction site and also to protect water quality in nearby streams, rivers, lakes and bays. Silt fences are perimeter controls, typically used in combination with sediment basins and sediment traps, as well as erosion controls, which are designed to retain sediment in place where soil is being disturbed by construction processes and prevents silt contamination of sensitive areas such as neighboring properties, streams, and catch basins. A typical fence consists of a piece of geotextile stretched between a series of wooden or metal stakes. Silt fences are typically supplied as rolls of permeable fabric stapled to wooden posts. These are installed along landscape contours to collect and/or filter sediment from sheet flow.
